Yahoo! Spring 2010 Graduate Foosball Tournaments

• April 16
  • Singles semifinal A - German won over Juilan in a close game, 10-7 and 10-9.
  • Singles semifinal B - Matthew won over Manos in an extended battle, 10-4 and 10-9.
  • Doubles semifinal A - Shivaram and Julian won over Nagarajan and Isaac, 10-4 and 10-5.
  • Doubles semifinal B - Joel and Thomas won over Manos and Ed, 6-10, 10-7 and 10-5.
  • After some scheduling and substitution chaos, the third place singles game is postponed, Ed substitutes for Prince in doubles, and Manos takes Matthew's place in the the singles finals.
  • Singles Championship - German won over Manos, 6-10, 10-8 and 10-4.
  • Doubles Championship - Shivaram and Julian won over Joel and Thomas, 10-5 and 10-9.

Final Four and Championship Schedule for Friday, April 16:
10:30am - Singles semifinal A – Julian vs German
11:00am - Singles semifinal B – Matthew vs Manos
11:30am - Doubles semifinal A - Nagarajan and Isaac vs Shivaram and Julian

1:30pm - Singles championship game - German vs Manos
2:00pm - Doubles championship game - Shivaram and Julian vs Joel and Thomas
2:30pm - Doubles third place game - Nagarajan and Isaac vs Manos and Ed
Note that a few teams who lost in the previous round have re-entered the tournament since the team that beat them last week is unable to play in the tournament this Friday. All games will start at the specified time, or when the previous game ends - whichever is later.

• April 9 - Shivaram and Julian beat Al and Pranav in an almost shut-out game. Final score: 2 games with with scores of 10-1 and 10-0. In singles, German Acuna beat Michael Quinlan in two games, with scores of 10-8 and 10-4.

• April 8 - Julian Bishop beat Samuel Barrett in the first match to go three games! The scores were 10-4, 7-10, and 10-5. In the second game of the day, Michael and Todd topped Nagarajan and Isaac in two games, with scores of 10-9 and 10-3. Although Sam and Matthew won with regard to score differential, Manos and Prince won the third match of the day in three games (second match of the day and tournament to go to three games). Scores were 10-8, 3-10, and 10-9.

• April 7 - Manos Kapritsos claimed the first final four spot in the singles tournament with a two game win over Harsh Shah today. Scores for the games were 10-1 and 10-7. Todd Hester claimed the second final four spot in the singles tournament with a win over Matthew Hausknecht in two games. The scores were 10-9 and 10-7.

• April 5 - Manos and Prince downed Katie and Ivan in two games, with scores 10-2 and 10-0, in the play-in match of the doubles tournament.

• April 2 - Julian Bishop ended Al Alagappan's tournament by winning his match today with two shut-out games. Manos Kapritsos beat Isaac Levy in two sets, with scores 10-2 and 10-5. Finally, Harsh Shah won by default when Srinath Setty withdrew from the tournament.

• April 1 - Todd Hester defeated Uli Grasemann in two games today, with scores of 10-6 and 10-9. Samuel Barrett then eliminated Nagarajan Natarajan in two games, with scores of approximately 10-7 and 10-5. In the final game of the day, Michael Quinlan beat Karthik Murthy in two games, with scores 10-6 and 10-3.

• March 31 - German Acuna advances past Ivan Jibaja today in the singles tournament. German won in two sets, 10-3 and 10-1. Joel and Thomas also defeated Harsh and Srinath in the first doubles game of the tournament today. Joel and Thomas were extra excited about the tournament, and decided to play their game a week early. Their excitement paid off with a 2-0 victory, with scores 10-8 and 10-6.

• March 30 - Matthew Hausknecht beat Andrew Matsuoka to open up the singles tournament today. Matthew won in two, with scores of approximately 10-5 and 10-5.

• March 14 - Brackets for singles and doubles are posted below. Play will begin with first round games for singles and the play-in game for doubles during the week of March 29th.

• March 3 - Registration is open, and will close on March 12th at 6pm CST. This Spring GRACS is proud to partner with Yahoo! in offering both a singles and doubles tournament. If you are a current UTCS graduate student, faculty, or staff member, email Katie Genter (katie@cs) if you would like to play in either tournament.

Note: The first round games will be played during the week of March 29th. The second round games will be played during the week of April 5th. The semi-final games, the third place game, and the championship game will be played on April 16th.
